PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon support more inexpensive and more available compared with alumina particles and metal oxide particles, and usable for various purposes; a method and an apparatus for producing the carbon support.

SOLUTION: The carbon support is produced by the steps of: heating organic matter to pyrolyze the organic matter into a gas containing tar; bringing the tar-containing gas generated by pyrolysis into contact with volcaniclastic material particles, diatomaceous earth, clay minerals or carbonates to precipitate carbonaceous solid onto the volcaniclastic material particles, diatomaceous earth, clay minerals or cabonates; and collecting the carbon support on which the carbonaceous solid is attached.
