PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid oxide fuel cell unit and a combustor for fuel cells with reduced CO emissions.

SOLUTION: A solid oxide fuel cell unit comprises: a fuel cell stack having first and second principal surfaces which generates power with fuel gas and oxidant gas, and discharges a first exhaust gas; a flame combustion chamber which discharges a second exhaust gas by flame-burning flammable gas contained in the first exhaust gas; and a catalytic combustion chamber which catalytically burns flammable gas contained in the second exhaust gas. Part of at least one of the flame combustion chamber and the catalytic combustion chamber is arranged in contact with or adjacent to at least one of the first and second principal surfaces.
