<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ion generator as a detachable unit, and a room air conditioner for efficiently discharging ions. <P>SOLUTION: The ion generator functioning as a room air conditioner includes a casing 21 for forming an air flow path, and an ion generation unit 50 provided detachably with respect to the casing 21 and configured to blow ions into an air. The ion generation unit 50 includes a front face-side ion generation part 51 and a rear face-side ion generation part 56 located with a spacing therebetween, and a connection cover part 61 for connecting the front face-side ion generation part 51 and the rear face-side ion generation part 56. One end 51p of the front face-side ion generation part 51 and one end 56p of the rear face-side ion generation part 56 are positioned within the flow path to be separated from each other.
