<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light emitting module capable of suppressing a characteristic impedance mismatch. <P>SOLUTION: A light emitting module 1 includes a multilayer ceramic package 2 having ceramic layers 3-5. The intermediate ceramic layer 4 comprises an opening 10 forming a recess section 11 to mount an optical device cooperating with an upper surface of the lower ceramic layer 3. The upper layer ceramic 5 is configured to have a side wall of the package so as to surround an area including the recess section 11. A sub-mount 14 is placed on a bottom surface of the recess section 11. A laser diode 16 is mounted on an upper surface of the sub-mount 14. An upper surface of the multilayer ceramic package 2 is bonded to a metal sleeve 31 via a holder 25 and a joint 28.
