<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a visible light response photocatalyst which can express functions as photocatalyst excited by a visible light having wavelength of 620 nm or more. <P>SOLUTION: The invention relates to a visible light response photocatalyst which is a metal nitride represented by a composition formula: (Ta<SB POS="POST">x</SB>Nb<SB POS="POST">1-x</SB>)<SB POS="POST">3</SB>N<SB POS="POST">5</SB>(wherein, x satisfies 0≤x<1), having the maximum light absorption wavelength within the range of 620-1,008 nm.
