<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a triggering method and a triggering device, capable of suppressing the electric power, that is supplied to a secondary winding from a second power converter, from becoming excessive, in a power generating system equipped with a secondary excitation induction generator. <P>SOLUTION: The triggering method includes a primary side excitation step in which a primary winding is excited by a first power converter 11, and a secondary side excitation step in which a secondary winding is excited by a second power converter 12. A primary side voltage establishing step is executed in which, in a no load state where a rotor 2a is driven by a power source 3 and a selecting switch 23 comes into open state, both the primary side excitation step and the secondary side excitation step are executed so that a primary side voltage v1 that occurs on the primary side of a secondary excitation induction generator 2 comes to be a target voltage value V1*.
