DEVICE AND METHOD FOR CONTROL OF VEHICLE SPEED

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle speed control device and method that facilitates a driver's intervention in speed control and improves convenience.

SOLUTION: The vehicle speed control device includes: an accelerator opening sensor 110 which detects an accelerator operation condition of the driver; a master cylinder pressure sensor 104 which detects a brake operation condition of the driver; a camera 107 which detects distance between own vehicle and a precedence vehicle; an engine 112 and a brake device (brake fluid pressure unit 101, brake ECU 102) which controls travel speed of own vehicle; and a brake ECU 102 which operates a speed control unit (engine 112 and brake device) so that relative relationship of own vehicle and the preceding vehicle may be maintained, when a distance Dca to the preceding vehicle detected with the camera 107 is in a speed control allowable range, and the operation state detected by the accelerator opening sensor 110 and the master cylinder pressure sensor 104 is a predetermined condition established beforehand.
