<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molten salt battery capable of dealing with a temperature rise caused by an overcurrent while ensuring sufficient strength of a separator. <P>SOLUTION: A separator 3 comprises a porous base material 31 made of glass woven fabric and a blocking member 32 comprising many granular materials 321 made of polypropylene. When the temperature of the molten salt battery is lower than a prescribed temperature, sodium ions pass through the porous base material 31 by passing through the space between the granular materials 321 (FIG. 3A). Therefore, an electrical current flows between a positive electrode 1 and a negative electrode 2. When the temperature of the molten salt battery is the prescribed temperature or higher, the granular materials 321 melt to form a membrane and holes of the porous base material 31 are blocked. As a result, sodium ions cannot pass through the porous base material 31 (FIG. 3B).
