<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for determining smolder that improves the accuracy of the smolder determination of an ignition plug. <P>SOLUTION: When the period when a current detection signal during the primary current energization of an ignition coil is a predetermined value or larger is a predetermined period or longer, the device determines whether a current engine operating region is an ignition generating region with an engine speed and a load factor as parameters.
