<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor with improved responsiveness. <P>SOLUTION: A gas sensor 100 includes a detecting element 110, an inner protector 200, an outer protector 210, a plurality of outer holes 214, a plurality of inner holes 203, and a discharge hole 207. The outer holes 214 allow a first space 10 and an outer part of the gas sensor 100 to communicate with each other. The inner holes 203 allow the first space 10 and a second space 20 to communicate with each other. The length in the axis direction AX of the respective outer holes 214 is longer than the length in the circumferential direction of a second circumferential wall 211. Only the rear ends of the respective inner holes 203 in the axis direction AX are formed to be closer to the rear side than the respective outer holes 214 and the position 114 closest to the distal end part of the detecting part 112. The opening surface of the respective outer holes 214 is larger than the opening surface of the respective inner holes 203.
