<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem: bamboo is used as a natural material for environmental preservation or is adapted to water treatment; however, because bamboo needs working, operations therefor are required and although there is a water purifying method using bamboo, it takes much time for environmental purification because bamboo itself needs to be brought forward, preserved, and conveyed to contaminated sites and thus needs long conveyance time and growing period. <P>SOLUTION: Inventors have found that even only a stem of bamboo has a water purifying effect. In a technique of adapting bamboo that has not been carbonized to environment, the bamboo is artificially placed in a place where water and/or soil exists.
