The method involves impressing a control signal package onto a power line (3) i.e. alternating-current network. The control signal package is transferred to two lamps (2) through the power line. Individual control signals are removed from the control signal package for respective lamps. Lights of the respective lamps are supplied with electrical current from the power line depending on the extracted control signals, where the lights are comprised of LED chips. The control signals are comprised of information about intensity or brightness of the lights, and duration of lighting. An independent claim is also included for an illumination device comprising a control device and two lamps provided with lights.
