<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation element which has a higher degree of freedom of operation and a simpler constitution than conventional one, and to which an external force according to content of an image is exerted. <P>SOLUTION: A detection unit 100 detects a position of an operation element 20 under control of a control unit and informs the control unit of a detection result. A display unit 200 displays an image on a display surface under control of the control unit. The control unit determines the relation between the position of the operation element 20 detected by the detection unit 100 and the image displayed by the display unit 200, and based on the relation determines the direction and magnitude of an external force exerted on the operation element 20. The control unit generates a magnetic field in an external force exerting unit 300 and exerts the external force on the operation element 20.
