The present invention discloses a method and an apparatus for transmitting Paging Indicator Channel (PICH) frames, wherein the method for transmitting PICH frames includes that: a base station sets the transmission power of a first type of PICH frames to be greater than the transmission power of a second type of PICH frames, wherein at least one Paging Indicator (PI) which equals 1 exists in each PICH frame of the first type of PICH frames, and all PIs in each PICH frame of the second type of PICH frames equal 0; and the base station uses the set transmission power of the first type of PICH frames to transmit the first type of PICH frames, or uses the set transmission power of the second type of PICH frames to transmit the second type of PICH frames. By reducing the transmission power of PICH when there is no paging, the present invention can reduce power consumption of the base station, optimize Ec/Io of a primary common pilot channel in a cell, and solves the problem in the prior art that the power consumption of a base station is too large when transmitting PICH frames. |
