<p>In casting concrete retaining wall blocks (10), a plurality of mold inserts form a passage (20) between top (15) and bottom (16) surfaces of the block (10), a recess (21) in the block top between the passage (20) and the back (12) of the block (10) and a recess (22) in the bottom (16) of the block (10) between the passage (20) and the back (12) of the block (10). The recesses (21, 22) and the passage (20) are formed by a plurality of mold inserts. When the blocks (10) are used in a retaining wall, geogrid fabric (24) passes from the rear of the wall through one of the recesses (21, 22) in a block (10), through the passage (20) in the block (10) and through the other recess )21, 22) in the block (10) into backfill for stabilizing the wall. The recesses (21, 22) and passage (20) are designed so that any concrete flashing formed between abutting mold inserts is not contacted by the geogrid fabric (24).</p> |
