PURPOSE: An image display device and an operation method thereof are provided to synchronize a touch location calculation of a pointing device by an optical signal, thereby minimizing an error in touch recognition according to the delay of a synchronization signal. CONSTITUTION: A control unit(170) generates synchronization signal outputted from all areas of a display unit(180) and a first and a second scanning signals which scans the display unit in the first and the second directions. The display unit outputs the synchronization signal and the first and the second signals. The control unit acquires touch location information of a pointing device by using touch time information. The touch time information displays a point when the pointing device receives the first and the second signals after detecting the synchronization signal.
