PURPOSE: An apparatus for charging a battery and a charging method thereof are provided to charge a battery by considering an allowable charging capacity value which diminishes according to the deterioration of the battery. CONSTITUTION: A battery part(1) has predetermined battery capacity for charging power. The battery part can be charged by the power provided from a power supply part(40). An interface part(10) can receive information and/or a properties about the battery part. A battery charging part(20) includes a charging circuit for charging the battery part. A power supply part(30) supplies the power to a battery charging apparatus. The power supply part can include an AC/DC switch box for changing a commercial AC power supply, which is inputted from the outside, to a DC power supply. The display part can display a charged state in the battery part by the control of a controlling part(50).
