<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that eliminates a step of an elastic intermediate transfer belt caused in a secondary transfer section, so as to prevent uneven application of a lubricant. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: an endless intermediate transfer belt 7 having an elastic layer and rotated; image forming sections Sa, Sb, Sc, and Sd for forming toner images one on another on the intermediate belt 7; a transfer roller 9 for transferring the toner images on the intermediate transfer belt 7 onto a recording material P all at once by forming a nip portion together with the intermediate transfer belt 7, and sandwiching and conveying the recording material in the nip portion; a fur brush 122 for applying a lubricant to the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 7 after the transfer of the toner images to the recording material P; and a cleaning blade 123 for wiping the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 7. In the image forming apparatus, the lubricant is applied to the intermediate transfer belt 7 after the passage of a deformation recovery time for the elastic layer of the intermediate transfer belt 7 caused in a secondary transfer position, which is determined by recording material information recognizing means for recognizing the thickness information of the recording material P passed through, and the thickness corresponding to the paper weight of the recording material P passed through. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
