The control device (38) comprises a control actuator, particularly a control piston (36), by which a compression ratio of a cylinder of the reciprocating piston engine is variably adjustable corresponding to the control device. The control actuator is held at the corresponding bearing point and is pivoted around a pivot axis (42) between two rotational positions. The control device has a detection unit (50), by which one of the rotational positions of the control actuator is detected.
