The method involves protruding out of a printed sheet (27) and/or individual sheet (6) from a multi-leaf printing product (3), which is opened at separation points. The separation points are widened out in the multi-leaf printing product, and an insert (25) is guided into the separation points. A movement process is implemented in an opener element (20) in a conveying direction (F) of a control curve, where speed of a driver (15) and the opener element is changed in a synchronous and cyclic manner. The opener element and the driver are driven with respective speeds. An independent claim is also included for a guiding device for guiding the insert into the multi-leaf printing product.
