<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coordinate input device that is easy to manufacture, is extendable for detecting a plurality of coordinates stably, is suitable for a structure in which a projector projects images from behind a screen, ensures high short range detection accuracy, requires a low processing load, and is capable of detecting three-dimensional coordinates relatively accurately. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The coordinate input device comprises an operating body having a light emitting part, a screen on which rays of light radiated from the light emitting part are diffusely projected, an optical sensor for imaging the diffused light on the screen from behind the screen, and a control part for calculating three-dimensional coordinates of the operating body from position and spread width information about the diffused light imaged by the optical sensor.
