<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To correct an image so as to make proper lightness in a region for a main subject or the like in the image. <P>SOLUTION: A second image which is an image of a partial region is extracted from an inputted first image. Based on a statistical value of a color signal in the first image, white balance correction rules are created, and based on the statistical value of the color signals in the first image and a statistical value of brightness signals in the second image, exposure correction rules are created.
