The component has an integrated transmitting-receiving unit i.e. radar antenna (9), arranged such that radiated electromagnetic waves are reflected by environment and again received for measuring a covered distance of a rail vehicle. The transmitting-receiving unit is two dimensionally expanded and aligned parallel or below a peak angle to a surface of the component. A control and evaluation unit (51) is provided for the transmitting-receiving unit. The unit externally lies in an axial housing (1) of a wheel bearing unit i.e. two-row cylindrical roller bearing (21), during assembly. An independent claim is also included for a wheel bearing unit for a rail vehicle comprising a bearing arrangement.
