Fabrics composed of fibrous materials agglutinated by adhesives. - Solutions of cellulose products, casein, fibrin, maisin, rubber, or phenolic condensation products, are deposited in a thin layer from a hopper 23 through an adjustable slot 24 preferably at regulated temperature on to a temperature controlled drum 9 which rotates in a casing 2 in which the temperature and humidity are regulable, and carries the film material past a plurality of knife like spreading devices 28. Textile fibres or similar material are projected by a rotary fan through the slot 33 on to the film before it is dried so as to produce an artificial fabric. The film may also be made to pass under a goffering roller 32 so as to produce artificial lace or tulle. The dried material is stripped from the drum and wound on stock rolls 15. The casing 2 is preferably heat insulated by means of asbestos sheet, cork fragments, and plywood with a metallic exterior. The periphery of the drum 9 may be internally heated or cooled bv liquid supplied through the pipe 13 and hollow shaft 10. Heated air, water, or steam passes through pipes 12 arranged close to the surface of the drum 9. A revolving brush 16 and felt pad 17 clean the surface of the drum after the film 35 has been stripped off. Heated and conditioned air may be introduced into the casing 2 through the orifice 34. In some cases the metallic surface of the drum may be coated with a material such as gelatine which is not soluble in the solution of film forming material subsequently deposited thereon.
