PURPOSE: A device for providing media quality information of an optical disk and a method thereof are provided to enable a user to efficiently identify the media quality information of recording and playing, thereby preventing an error while recording a data. CONSTITUTION: A media quality information providing device compares a searched MID(Manufacturer ID) with a stored media quality information table after searching MID of an optical disk(S15). The device searches a media quality information related to the MID in the table(S16). The device outputs the searched medial quality information through a guide message of OSD(On Screen Display)(S17).
