A fluid decontamination/purification system comprises an automatic two-way vavle, a high pressure and temperature turbine, a water pump and reservoir, a condenser, an ion-exchange filter, and an auto-ignition gas vent. In operation, the system can be installed, for instance in the main steam conduit from the reactor 1 and comprises: an automatic two way valve 3 for removal of gas; downstream thereof a high pressure and temperature turbine 7 for generating power of the remainder of the system; downstream thereof a condenser 13 which is cooled from water pumped by pump 15 and preferably has inlets for spraying cooling water; downstream thereof an ion-exchange filter 22 for removal of solid contamination; downstream thereof, liberated gases are passed to a vent 25 equipped with auto-ignition for burning any produced hydrogen; downstream of the filter water is passed to a reservoir 20 whence it can be supplied back to the condenser via pump 15 or returned to the operating system of the reactor.
