A method of establishing a tag subscription (e.g., via an graphical user interface (GUI) 300) comprises receiving from a user, as part of a tag subscription request, a tag 302, a selection of at least one media event (e.g. broadcast programme) 304 to which the tag is to be applied, and a notification threshold 312; tags or flags may be user-input keywords or phrases 302. Tags generated in association with the media event are then monitored for matches with the user created tags, and a tag notification in real time 308 or periodically 310 - is sent to a user when tag matches exceed the notification threshold. Further user-defined parameters may include a notification frequency or mode, or designation of a third party notification receiver. The notification threshold (trigger level) may relate to a sufficient number of tags, associated with the media event, matching user tags. Automatic or manually (human) input media tags may be used. Fuzzy tag matching 316 can be used, e.g. for misspelled tags or words. Time stamps may indicate the time the threshold or level was exceeded, prompting notification or alerting. Notifications may include information links, pop ups or metadata. |
