The Vacuum Cleaner has a shape which allows it to be placed in a stable position on a flight of stairs and which overcomes the problem of instability when positioned on stairs but also remains suitable for use on a flat surface such as a floor. This shape also enables easy upward movement on stairs and overcomes the problem of manoeuvrability.                                                 The Vacuum Cleaner comprises a curved undercarriage B which allows the vacuum cleaner to span two or more steps of a staircase and which can also assist in the vacuum cleaner ascent of the stair case. One or more rotating ground engaging members D which can be locked when the cleaner is used on stairs to allow rotation in a one direction only, preferably forward are provided and a ground engaging rotating member A at the front of the cleaner. At least one rotating non ground engaging member J is provided at the nose of the cleaner to assist the cleaner ascent of the stair treads, and a further rotating member may be provided in the curved part of the undercarriage B. |
