723,067. Supply systems employing transformers. JANSEN, B. Oct. 8, 1952 [Oct. 9, 1951], No. 25201/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (4). A bank of power-factor correction condensers is connected through on-load tap-changing gear to a winding on a transformer supplying a useful load. Thus a three-phase power transformer having star-connected primary and secondary windings may have its primary windings tapped adjacent the star point for voltage adjustment purposes, the load being supplied from the full secondary windings whilst the power-factor correction condensers are adjustably connected between the outer ends of the secondary windings and tappings therein which are preferably so chosen as to provide uniform steps of reactive power. Alternatively, the tappings may extend outwardly in either direction from the centre of the secondary winding. The resistance contacts of the on-load tap-changing gear are preferably so graded as to cause uniform contact-burning on all steps. Flux diverting means may be provided to equalize the ampere-turns along the core when the condensers are connected across only a part of the winding. |
