Containers and ducts for chemically active materials such as sulphuric acid and hydrofluoric acid, and accumulator plates and other bodies of copper gauze, aluminium or plastic materials are protected against chemical action by coating them with lead and then with a layer of dense non-porous lead dioxide which may be deposited electrolytically from an alkaline plumbite bath. The body may be coated with intermediate layers of copper or silver before the lead is applied, and aluminium bodies may first be subjected to a zinc immersion process. |
