The invention relates to a process for the purification of levigated matter and heavy metal ion-containing waste water. According to the invention, the process consists in treating waste water in two stages, by coagulation and floatation at a pH value of 10...13, within an electrolytic cell with iron cathode and aluminium or iron consumable anode in the shape of a bar, at a current density of 500...550 A/m, a voltage of up to 30 V, for 10...60 min, at the ambient temperature, followed by purification in a discharge cell with oxygen bubbles, at a flow rate of 2...5 l/min, introduced through perforated electrodes submerged into the liquid, using high-voltage pulses of 1...3 kV at a repetition rate of 15...25 kHz, for 10...15 min, to obtain purified water within the range of limit values admitted for discharge into natural receivers or sewage water.
