METHOD FOR DETERMINING SEA WATER SALINITY AND DENSITY

The inventive method can be used for determining sea water parameters, such as salinity and density, which are necessary, in particular, for controlling the displacement of submarine vessels and vehicles. The inventive method consists in exciting acoustic emission at a given depth, receiving said emission and measuring the sound speed, simultaneously measuring the temperature of the medium at said depth, recording the measurements and in determining the salinity and density on the basis of the measured parameters by means of the known polynomials of the sound speed and density. For a submarine vessel in depth stabilization mode, after determination of the salinity and density at said depth, the monitoring of the salinity variation is carried out according to the formula: : δS ≈ [δC – 4.57δT(1 – 0.0195T) – 0.011(S- 35) -0.0163δ&eegr;] : (1.4 – 0.011T), where δS is the variation in salinity, (‰); δC is the variation in sound speed, (m/s); δT - dT is the variation in temperature, °C; T- is the temperature at the given depth, °C; S- is the salinity at the given depth, (‰); δ&eegr; - is the variation in depth, (m) and the density variation monitoring is carried out according to the formula: δ&rgr;≈ - 0.07δT[1+0.139T+0.0404(S- 35)] + (0.802 – 0.00283T)δS + 4.5 × 10δ&eegr;, where δ&rgr; - is the variation in density, (kg/m3); δT - is the variation in temperature, °C; T- is the temperature an the given depth, °C; S- is the salinity at the given depth (‰); δS – is the variation in salinity, ‰; δ&eegr; - is the variation in depth, (m). Ultrasound waves are used as the acoustic emission and the sound speed is measured by means of the E.D. Popov pulse-cyclic sound speed meter (1). For the submarine vessel, the measurements are carried out at three depths corresponding to the fin structure level, the level of the submarine vessel fore and under the bottom thereof. Said invention makes it possible to develop a simple and operative method and to extend the possibilities thereof.
