RANGING DEVICE AND IMAGING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly select a pixel used for parallax calculation taking into consideration the processing time required for the parallax calculation.

SOLUTION: A ranging device for measuring the distance to an object includes: two imaging means; determination means which determines one of a plurality of processing for selecting the parallax calculation pixel from images imaged by one of two imaging means in accordance with the size of an object image of the parallax calculation; selection means which selects the parallax calculation pixel form the object image based on the processing determined by the determination means; and calculation means which calculates parallax data by using the parallax calculation pixel selected by the selection means and the pixel corresponding to the parallax calculation pixel selected out of the images imaged by the other imaging means.
