Instead of or in addition to device-centric authentication, user-centric authentication may be used with an Internet TV server which stores information on the preferences of each user and which also enables users to login to the Internet TV service from any enabled device. By means of the server the user can recommend Internet TV content to other system users on a buddy list, and should a buddy accept a user's recommendation and view recommended content the user is rewarded for each successful referral and the referring user's credibility rating improves.
