摘要 Disclosed is a phoswich thermal neutron detector that can easily discriminate between gamma rays and thermal neutron detection signals and can selectively obtain thermal neutron signals. Specifically disclosed is a phoswich radiation detector with two types of scintillators, comprising a scintillator for detecting thermal neutrons such as LiCaAlF6:Eu, etc., with a luminescence of more than 1,500 photons/neutron and a scintillator for detecting gamma rays with a permeable tip on a shorter wavelength than the emission wavelength of the thermal neutron scintillator. The radiation detector that discriminates between thermal neutrons and gamma rays is characterized by the scintillator for detecting gamma rays being: an organic fixed scintillator such as, for example a plastic scintillator, that does not contain more than 10 mol% of total volume of elements selected from 6Li, 10B, and Gd; or an inorganic single crystal scintillator such as lithium glass (containing 6Li and Ce) or BGO, etc., that has an effective atomic number (Zeff) of 30 or more and that does not contain more than 10 mol% of total volume of elements selected from 6Li, 10B, and Gd.
