The present invention relates to a side mirror for a vehicle, which is installed on a front door having a window that is opened or closed by windowpane to provide a view to the rear of the vehicle. The side mirror according to the present invention includes an image acquisition device and a screen. The image acquisition device is installed on the front door to acquire an image of an object at the rear of the vehicle and project the image to the interior of the vehicle. The screen is installed on the front door near a front edge of the window and is disposed inside the windowpane to display the image of the object projected by the image acquisition device to the driver. According to the present invention, the image of the object at the rear of the vehicle is acquired by the image acquisition device and is then clearly projected onto the screen near the windowpane of the front door. Thus, the driver can simply and accurately check the view to the rear of the vehicle. Since the size of a housing protruding from the outer surface of the front door is minimized, the drag coefficient and noise level may be reduced to improve driving safety, fuel efficiency, and freedom of design. Also, since the screen is installed inside the windowpane, the vehicle can be driven more safely, in view of the actions a driver must perform to check the situation at the rear of the vehicle. |
