PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium ion secondary battery preventing overcharge due to variations in an SOC of a single cell in charging a battery pack.

SOLUTION: A lithium ion secondary battery provided by the present invention includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode and an electrolyte. The positive electrode includes a positive electrode active material layer that is formed on a collector and contains a main positive electrode active material having a predetermined oxidation reduction potential as a main component and a high-potential positive electrode active material having an oxidation reduction potential higher than that of the main positive electrode active material.
