<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having good display quality. <P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer. The first substrate has a common electrode arranged over a first insulating substrate, an insulating film covering the common electrode, multiple pixel electrodes arranged on the insulating film to be opposed to the common electrode and having slits formed therein, and a first oriented film covering the respective pixel electrodes. The second substrate has, on an inner surface of a second insulating substrate opposed to the first substrate, a black matrix arranged over between the pixel electrodes, a color filter arranged over the respective pixel electrodes, and a second oriented film arranged over the color filter at the first substrate side. The liquid crystal layer is retained between the first substrate and the second substrate and has a first region located on between the pixel electrodes and a second region located on the pixel electrodes. When a phase difference value of the liquid crystal layer is defined as Δn*d wherein Δn is refractive index anisotropy of the liquid crystal layer and d is a thickness of the liquid crystal layer, the phase difference value of the first region is smaller than the phase difference value of the second region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
