<p>An armour element comprising a High-Hardness Steel having a plurality of slots passing through the element, such that the areal density of the slotted element is 55-65% that of the unperforated, monolithic plate. The slots are stamped before the final heat treatment to produce a High-Hardness Steel (greater than 500Hv).</p>
