[Problem] To provide: a process for producing euglena containing a wax ester at a high content, by culturing a microalga euglena aerobically by photosynthesis using carbon dioxide as a carbon source, further culturing the microalga euglena under nitrogen-starved conditions to increase the amount of accumulated paramylon per cell, and subsequently leaving the microalga euglena under anaerobic conditions, thereby producing euglena containing a wax ester at a high content; and a process for producing a wax ester. [Solution] The invention relates to a process for producing euglena containing a wax ester at a high content. The process comprises a first step of culturing a microalga euglena aerobically, a second step of further culturing the microalga euglena while retaining the culture medium under nitrogen-starved conditions, and a third step of retaining cells of the microalga euglena under anaerobic conditions.
