The method involves simulating a voltage source e.g. battery simulator (1), of a battery i.e. high voltage battery, by electric voltage and electric current of a real battery. A battery management system (2) is connected at the voltage source, where the simulator comprises function interfaces and electrical interfaces. The interfaces are connected with the management system, where the electrical interfaces are voltage outputs and a temperature sensor output, and the simulator includes a temperature reference value input, voltage reference value input and current sensor reference value input. An independent claim is also included for a device for testing a battery management system.
