The first control decreases the EGR control valve aperture when a charging pressure should be increased while it increases the EGR control valve aperture when the charging pressure should be decreased, and the second control increases the EGR control valve aperture when the charging pressure should increase the charging pressure while it should decrease the charging pressure. A variation in the charging energy ¾ &Delta;Ein ¾ attributed to a variation in an inhalation resistance, and a variation in the charging energy ¾ &Delta;Etb ¾ attributed to a variation in a turbine passage exhaust gas when the EGR control valve aperture is changed at the time of control of the charging pressure are compared.
