<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image read apparatus and an image read control method which reduce time necessary to complete manuscript reading regardless of a stopping position of a carriage. <P>SOLUTION: The image read apparatus comprises a carriage provided with a line sensor extending in a main scanning direction and the carriage moves in a sub-scanning direction for scanning a manuscript to read an image on a manuscript by the line sensor. An HP sensor 108 and a flag 107 detect whether the scanning carriage is positioned at HP. The position of the carriage in the sub-scanning direction is detected as a carriage position depending on a mark 109. The image read apparatus executes an initialization control when it is detected that the carriage is positioned at HP before an image reading operation. When it is not detected that the carriage is positioned at HP, and a distance between the carriage position and HP is farther than a predetermined distance, the image read apparatus transfers the carriage in a direction toward HP by raising a travel speed of the carriage in comparison with a case where a distance between the carriage position and HP is equal to or below the predetermined distance. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
