<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing device that can suppress reduction of processing speed and deterioration of image quality when data size of an input image is compressed, and a compression method for the image processing device. <P>SOLUTION: An input image is divided into plural image pieces having a predetermined size, code data representing an arrangement pattern of color data contained in each image piece and color data of some colors contained in each image piece are output as first output data, and the number of colors in each image piece is determined to count the number of the image pieces for every color number. When the first output data has a predetermined data size or more, a color-reducing pattern for the plural image pieces is determined according to the counted number of image pieces of each color number and the priority order of the color-reducing pattern to execute color reducing processing. Thereafter, color data of respective pixels in each image piece are compared to determine the code data representing the arrangement pattern of the color data contained in each image piece and the color data of some colors contained in each image piece and output these data as second output data. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
