The unit (1) has an ignition electrode surrounding a tubular outer conductor (2), where the outer conductor is provided at front and rear ends. An electrical insulator (3) is arranged between the ignition electrode and the outer conductor. The insulator and the ignition electrode project over the front end of the outer conductor along a longitudinal direction. The ignition electrode comprises electrode branches (4b) that are extended from a base point. The insulator is extended along a longitudinal direction beyond the base point. An end surface of the electrode branches is uncovered. The insulator is provided with a ceramic insulator block. The electrode branches are embedded in a molded insulator material. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacturing ignition unit for firing fuel in a combustion engine by a corona discharge.
