Producing a plant extract from the grape vine, comprises: (a) providing at least one grape variety as a starting material; (b) crushing the grape-starting material to a particle size, which is smaller than the seeds of the grapes to produce a mash; (c) adding water or water-ethanol mixture to the mash; (d) fermenting the diluted mash to produce a fermentation product; and (e) further processing the fermentation product to the plant extract by partial or complete removal of water to produce a spissum extract or a powder extract. Producing a plant extract from the grape vine, comprises: (a) providing at least one grape variety as a starting material; (b) crushing the grape-starting material to a particle size, which is smaller than the seeds of the grapes to produce a mash; (c) adding water or water-ethanol mixture to the mash; (d) fermenting the diluted mash to produce a fermentation product; and (e) further processing the fermentation product to the plant extract by partial or complete removal of water and at least completely or substantially complete removal of alcohol from the fermentation product to produce a spissum extract or a powder extract. An independent claim is also included for a plant extract from the grape vine obtainable by the above mentioned method.
