<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust a steam discharge amount from a steam compressor in response to the variation of a steam use load of steam-using facilities, in a steam system with the steam compressor. <P>SOLUTION: The steam compressor 2 sucks and compresses the steam, and discharges the steam. A first sensor 8 detects a steam pressure at an outlet side of the steam compressor 2. The steam compressor 2 is controlled on the basis of a detection value of the first sensor 8. Preferably, the steam from a boiler 3 may be joined with the steam from the steam compressor 2 via a boiler steam supply valve 7. In this case, steam compressor 2 is controlled so that a detection value of the first sensor 8 is maintained at a first set value. A boiler steam supply valve 7 is opened and closed or its opening is adjusted so that the pressure downstream of it is maintained at a third set value. The third set value may be preferably set so as to be lower than the first set value.
