<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve accuracy in correcting gradation while suppressing drastic variation of density. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus performs: forming a gradation-pattern image including a plurality of different density patches for every cycle of gradation pattern image-forming; detecting density of each patch included in the formed gradation pattern images. Where "A0" is defined as an initial value of a ratio A of the present density value, the apparatus increases the ratio A of the present density value by a predetermined value B for every cycle of a correction curve update (where [cycle of correction curve update]<[cycle of gradation pattern image-forming]), calculates a weighted average of the present density value and the previous density value with a ratio of A to (1-A), and updates a correction curve used in correcting a gradation characteristic of an image forming section of the apparatus based on the result of weighted average. After a ratio A of the present density value reaches "1", the apparatus lets the ratio A stay at "1" until the next cycle of forming a gradation pattern image and detecting density of each patch. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
