<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface coated cutting tool capable of keeping adhesion between a base material and a coat well, and capable of withstanding a severe cutting condition. <P>SOLUTION: The surface coated cutting tool includes a base material and a coat formed on the base material. The base material contains hard particles and a binder phase for binding the hard particles. In the hard particles coming in contact with the coat, a rough is formed on such a surface as the side coming in contact with the coat. In the cross section available by cutting along the flat plane containing a normal line of the surface of the surface coated cutting tool, a surface roughness R<SB POS="POST">max</SB>of the base material at a reference line of the length 50 μm positioned at the surface on such side as contacts to the coat is 1 μm or more and 10 μm or less. A length L of a line segment A that connects the tips of protruding parts at both ends sandwiching a recess constituting the rough of the hard particles at the reference line is 10 nm or more and 100 nm or less. A distance D between the line segment A and a line segment B, which is parallel to the line segment A and comes in contact with the deepest part of the recess, is 10 nm or more and 100 nm or less. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
