[Class 94 (ii).] In a window attachment device for envelope folding machines of the type in which a vertical plunger carries envelope blanks successively to a folding device and a horizontally moving conveyer supplies window patches intermittently to the envelope blanks, the patches are transferred to the bottom of the plunger through suction elements which hold the patch on the top of the conveyer and then transfer it to the plunger. An envelope blank, placed by a slide 19, Fig. 2, above an aperture 22 in a slideway 18, is thrust through the aperture on to a folding table 23 by a plunger 21 after a window patch has been placed thereon. The window patch is supplied and positioned by a framework 33 comprising side members adjustably secured by extensions 37 to a fixed cross-member 31 in which a shaft carrying the plunger 21 is reciprocated. A rotary shaft 48 mounted in the framework 33, carries at one end a crank arm 82 connected to a link which is adjustably secured at its other end to an arm 85 freely mounted on a shaft 86 which it rotates intermittently through a ratchet 87 and pawl 88. The shaft 86 is integral with a feed roll 68, Fig. 5, for the strip of window paper and the roll 68 is geared to a lower spring-pressed feed roll 69, the rolls co-operating to feed the strip, in lengths determined by the adjustment of the link 83 on the arm 85, through a guide 71 to cutters 72, 73. A deflector 93 guides the severed strip or patch on to a hollow conveyer 41 where it is retained by a vacuum created therein. The interior of the conveyer 41 communicates with the top surface by apertures and with a control device by a pipe 102, Fig. 8, secured in a non-rotatable disc 97 mounted on the shaft 48. Between this disc and a similar disc 97 a disc 99 is keyed to the shaft, its rotation bringing communicating recesses 103, 104 in the disc 99 into register with the pipe 102 and a pipe 101 in the second disc 97 ; the pipe 101 communicates with a pump to create the required vacuum. The conveyer 41 now slides along slots 40 in the framework 33, being actuated by an arm 46 secured to a shaft 47 adapted to be rocked by an arm 58 adjustably secured on it and adjustably connected at its outer end to an arm 55 carrying a cam roller 54 which is resiliently pressed against a cam 53 on the shaft 48. The plunger 21 is hollow, is provided with apertures 112 in its lower surface, and is connected to the pump by a control device mounted on the shaft 48 and identical with the discs 97, 99. When the conveyer is beneath the plunger 21, another recess in the disc 99 allows air to enter and at the same instant a vacuum in the plunger adheres the patch to the plunger. By adjustment of the connection between the arms 55, 58, the conveyer may bring the patch beneath any part .of the plunger and by closing some or other of the apertures in the conveyer and plunger the patch may be made to adhere to different parts of them as determined by the guide 71 which is laterally adjustable for this purpose.
